History Of This Research Grant Program
Jennifer Ward Oppenheimer developed a passion for Africa in the early 90s when she moved to Zimbabwe with her husband, Jonathan Oppenheimer.
Then, in 1999, she and her husband moved to South Africa, where they found a home. First, she began her philanthropic lifestyle in the area of health, but as time passed, she began to see the challenges that faced South Africa and the African continent in general.
As a result, she decided that sustainable ecology would be the theme of her movement. With time, Jennifer Ward became passionate about contributing to a sustainable environment where men and women can live as they exist.
Grant Benefits
• A financial grant of $150,000 would be offered to one successful candidate. With this grant, the researcher can be supported for up to three years in his journey.
Eligibility Requirements
These are the eligibility criteria for this award:
• The lead applicant who did this grant should be an early career scientist.
• Applicants should be holders of a PhD degree and should have no more than seven years of work experience or research experience (post-degree).
• Should be affiliated or connected to a credible African institution.
• The proposed research should be focused on or in the African continent.
• The proposal should show a strong connection between biodiversity and conservatism.
Judges Criteria
Applicants should be aware that judges will be considering the following details:
• Should demonstrate advances in the frontier of the selected field of study.
• Must include a detailed solution to African challenges.
• Must demonstrate innovative methodologies and approaches that are relevant in research.
• Must exhibit scientific excellence and rigor.
• Must not present risk or safety concerns.
• The researcher must be willing to open access publications.
• Must be ready to create impact within and outside the grant period.
• Should contribute to human capital development.
• The objectives of the study must be centered on solving gaps left by previous researchers.
• Demonstrate a clear path of disseminating research both outside and inside the scientific community.
